Coaching

A new perspective, listening, turning ideas upside down, creating scenarios, drawing up a map or model of your issues... these are some of the things I offer you so that you can view your experiences from different angles. Since people learn throughout their lives, you will come to realize for yourself what it is that moves or drives you deep down, and also what resources you already have within you to find a solution. What is change? Is it necessary, or do I just need new arguments to enable me to continue preserving the status quo?

Change and coaching are often a balancing act. What you don't want to do is “just” look inward and talk when you need to get started and find practical solutions quickly. But the opposite is also true—no quick fixes when you're not ready yet. And yet, you also need to feel what is actually happening right now. “Just” psychology and navel-gazing when the environment is strategically, politically, and rationally oriented. But also living with integrity. “Just” looking at what is good for me when the path to my goal is rocky and I am ready for it. But also questioning my goal, whether it really is the right one. To do this, we can take deep dives and work selectively (pars pro toto), but also reflect on the coaching, pause in between, and adjust course if necessary.

What can I expect from you as a coach?

  1. I listen, maintaining professional distance while remaining passionately engaged with you.
  2. I ask you questions for diagnosis and analysis, in order to open new doors for you, to guide you through challenging phases of conversation, and to support you to systematically work out alternative solutions.
  3. I provide selective input: feedback, experience from professional and consulting practice, my assessment or recommendation, or theoretical input
  4. I question and offer creative ideas—new perspectives, pointing out blind spots or assumptions, testing new paths, networking with new people, institutions...
  5. I live by the phrase from transactional analysis: “I'm OK, you're OK.”
  6. I offer you exercises and tasks to help you develop, try things out, and reflect.
  7. I summarize, give you interim results and an overview so that you can see a possible bigger picture.
  8. I point out that between coaching sessions new ideas may arise within you, and I show you how you can use them.
  9. I accept feedback and reflect on my work professionally in supervision and training.
  10. I am quick to understand, even sudden twists and turns and the level “behind” them. Complexity motivates me rather than deterring me.
